Art College Counseling + Portfolio Prep + Visual Arts Instruction

High School to Art School (HS2AS) was a free, year round, visual arts portfolio development program that provided high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors with the skills, counseling and portfolio development opportunities to gain acceptance into competitive art colleges. HS2AS was operated by Queens Council on the Arts. Annually, the program served 65 NYC teen artists striving to gain admission and scholarships to art/design/fashion/media arts BFA programs.

The HS2AS program hosted three seasonal cohorts. The year began with an introduction to observational drawing in the Spring; continued an ‘intensive’ art-making session in the Summer; and wrapped up with the Fall Session focused on guiding students through the college application process. HS2AS curriculum was focused on foundational drawing skills, and was supplemented through field trips, student exhibitions, and professional development opportunities. Students in grades 10-12 were admitted after an application & interview process on scholarship; and given metro cards and art supplies.

I was a College Counselor/ Teaching Artist with HS2AS from 2019 to 2022. In September 2021, I was promoted to the Program Manager role . I served as Program Manager & Lead Teaching Artist from 2021 to 2022.
