Sketching with Street Dancers - Volume 9 (EarthWeek Edition)

  • New York Hall of Science 47-01 111th Street Queens, NY, 11368 United States (map)

ABOUT SKETCHING WITH STREET DANCERS Volume 9 (Earth Week Edition) is a “not so still life”, drawing session that combines movement, mark making (drawing) and music.

Four drawing models will embody natural elements (earth, fire, water and wind) that reveal climate change to everyday people. Sketching Vol 9 begins with three warm up exercises and mark making demonstrations. The event continues with guided drawing exercises designed for the audience to track, trace and transmit the shapes, lines, forms, space, textures and gestures created by Street Dancers, Chi-Chi, Rarebreed, Erthquake and Nebz serving as drawing models in motion. The drawing session will be followed by a gallery walk for sketchers and dancers to see the results of their collaboration in real time. DJ Rocka will deliver the soundtrack. Noelle Salaun will demonstrate drawing techniques to convey the dancers' movement on paper. Aurora Hidalgo will be guiding volume 9 as the timekeeper. Sketching with Street Dancers was created by Lafotographeuse & is organized by Kut The Rug Institute. Volume 9 was commissioned by NY Hall of Science. ****This event is free and open to the public. Drawing paper, pencils & surfaces will be provided for all participants.****
